Offer Description
The University of Warsaw invites applications for a fully funded Postdoc position for the research project "Modeling disorder in crystalline materials using systematically improvable correlated methods" financed by the ERC Advanced grant "". The employment period is 24 months, full‑time (40 hours per week).
The aim of the project is to advance the modelling of disordered correlated‑electron materials by developing novel ab‑initio methods that challenge the dominance of density functional theory (DFT) through Green’s function techniques, machine learning and advanced mathematical models.
Responsibilities• Develop and implement advanced theoretical and numerical methods for solid‑state physics and theoretical chemistry.
• Perform calculations on electronic correlations in molecular systems and solids, Green’s function methods, and large software packages.
• Collaborate within the Institute of Theoretical Physics and participate in project meetings, conferences and publications.
QualificationsEducation:
PhD or equivalent in physics, chemistry or related sciences (no older than 7 years, with possible extensions for parental or medical leave, see Article 113 of the Polish Law on Higher Education).
Relevant skills and experience:
- Expertise in developing theoretical or numerical methods for solid‑state physics or theoretical chemistry.
- Experience in electronic correlation methods for molecules or solids.
- Knowledge of numerical aspects of Green’s function techniques.
- Familiarity with numerical methods and modern machine‑learning approaches.
- Experience developing methods within large software packages.
- Strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, Fortran or similar.
- Excellent command of English.
- Motivation, independence and proven research initiative.
Other requirements:
- Fulfilment of the requirements set out in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science.
- Interest and motivation for research.
- Substantial academic achievements.
- International experience (participation in conferences or exchange programmes).

Additional InformationThe position is based at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw (Pasteura 5, 02‑093 Warsaw).
Salary: 8,533.00 PLN gross per month, plus a 8,250.00 PLN gross monthly bonus and a yearly bonus equal to one month’s salary. Additional remuneration is awarded for years of service.
You will be entitled to paid leave, social benefits, and access to sports facilities for University of Warsaw employees.
Selection process:
Stage I formal evaluation of documents;
Stage II – substantive evaluation;
Stage III – interview;
Stage IV – final evaluation;
Stage V – adjudication and announcement.
