About

the role

We are seeking a Development Manager to fill an important and well-defined role on our Development team. This is a generalist position that will provide support for activities at each stage of the donor engagement lifecycle. The ideal candidate will be a skilled project manager and will have broad experience with competence in multiple fundraising domains, including prospect research, annual fund giving, and event fundraising.

Some experience with grants management is also strongly preferred. The person who fills this role will be well-supported and will enjoy ample opportunity for professional growth.

What you'll do Donor/prospect relationship management and administration
  • Manages major donor research and qualification workflows using iWave and other tools
  • Supports Annual Fund campaign and mid-level donor program
  • Manages and reports on constituent and gift data and reconciles data with Finance
  • Manages online payment platforms (Click and Pledge, Pay Pal, etc.)
  • Provides both strategic and logistical support to Director of Development on event fundraising
  • Serves as thought partner to Director of Development on fundraising strategy and execution
Grant proposal development and award management
  • Assists Principal Grants Officer with grant proposal development activities and documentation
  • Supports grant reporting process: track funder reporting requirements, deadlines, and deliverables
  • Manages letters of collaboration for grant awards, both for and from COS
Other duties
  • Collaborates with Marketing and Communications team on campaigns and social media initiatives
  • Manages state charitable registration administration process
  • Supports Director of Development with donor cultivation and stewardship efforts
  • Represents Development team in select committees and working groups across the organization
Required Skills
  • Proven organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated capability to work both independently and as a part of a team, to take initiative, and meet deadlines within strict time constraints.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to professionally communicate with a wide range of partners, experts, and other contacts.
  • Exercise discretion in maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information related to COS supporters and COS programs.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or a similar Customer Relationship Management platform preferred.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Required 4 years, preferred 5+ years experience working in fundraising and/or project management in a nonprofit organization or equivalent experience in another sector
  • Experience in donor or customer relationship management/stewardship roles is strongly preferred
  • Experience in scientific research, science communications, and/or open science is preferred but not required
  • The salary range for this position is $70, annually
  • 401(k) with employer match. COS offers a matching contribution of 100% up to 3% of pay and another 50% up to 5% of pay (the full match will be 4% if participants elect to defer 5%).
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance. COS covers 100% of employee premium and 50% of all dependent coverage costs under the base plan.
  • 15 days of paid time off and 5 days of sick leave in year one.
