Instructional Systems Designer (Soar Tech)

This role is part of our Soar Tech division, which focuses on data and AI, autonomy software, and advanced simulation and training systems. Soar Tech has decades of experience in AI research, including major DARPA autonomy programs, and develops explainable, adaptive technologies that enhance human judgment and accelerate mission readiness.
Instructional Systems Designers (ISD) supports the development and delivery of Interactive Multi-Media Instruction (IMI) and Computer Based Training (CBT). The ISD establishes methodologies, processes, and working group interaction in all stages of IMI and CBT development to ensure reliable and repeatable results. ISD will assess project learning and performance needs to craft effective and efficient plans for performance solutions and services that address business-specific requirements and constraints.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Conduct analyses and develop curricula and associated products in multiple formats according to instructional principles, customer objectives, and project objectives.
- Guide subject matter experts, in the government and others, through the training design and development process.
- Determine instructional strategies to be used and ensure curriculum developed follows sound ISD methodology.
- Complete exploratory analysis and visualization.
- Facilitate and analyze feedback to implement continuing improvement.
- Travel for demonstration or customer relations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- BS in instructional design, adult education, cognitive science, psychology, human-computer interactions, human factors or a related discipline that is relevant to the broad area of computational science and AI.
- Three (3) years’ minimum experience in instructional design, content development, training delivery, or an adjacent field.
- Experience developing courseware outlines, storyboards, graphic requests, onscreen lessons, instructor guides, trainee guides, test questions, and assessments.
- Must be knowledgeable of the courseware development process including job/task analysis, course design, storyboarding, testing, implementation, and validation.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Write, edit, and proofread technical information and data.
- Familiarity with learning theory, psychology of learning, educational psychology:
Study of learning theories as they relate to the systematic design, development, and validation of instructional material. - Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style.
- Ability to effectively support multiple projects.
- Proficient with Office 365.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DOD) Security Clearance.
- Familiarity with the DoD research community players, processes and procedures (e.g., the military services and competitive BAA processes).
- Familiarity with the Authoring Instructional Materials (AIM) Content Planning Module (CPM) /Learning Object Module (LOM).
- Active duty military experience or familiarity with military training is preferred.
