Jagiellonian University announces a selection procedure for the position of an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR in project title: “Beyond the Szemerédi theorem”.

Planned duration of employment: 12 months with an option of extension to 24 months. Expected date of employment:
June 2026.

The selection procedure is open for all individuals, who meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116.2.3) of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, and who meet the following eligibility criteria according to § 165 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University:

  • holding at least a doctoral degree;
  • having relevant scientific achievements;
  • taking active part in scientific life.
Specific Requirements
  • According to the National Science Centre (NCN) requirements:
    • obtained a doctoral degree in the year of employment in the project or within the 12 years preceding January 1st of the year of employment in the project. This period may be extended by the duration of long‑term (over 90 days) documented sickness benefits or rehabilitation benefits due to incapacity for work. Additionally, this period may be extended by the number of months spent on leave related to the care and upbringing of children granted under the terms of the Labor Code, and in the case of women – by 18 months for each born or adopted child, if this method of indicating career breaks is more favorable.
    • obtained a doctoral degree from an entity other than the entity where the position is planned, or completed at least a 10-month, continuous, and documented postdoctoral fellowship in an entity other than the entity implementing the project and in a country other than the country where the doctoral degree was obtained.
  • Very good knowledge of additive combinatorics, ergodic theory or related fields (harmonic analysis or analytic number theory) in areas related to the project tasks, confirmed by publications.
  • Languages:

    ENGLISH – Level Good

    Eligibility Criteria
  • CV with a list of publications.
  • Personal questionnaire filled in by the candidate.
  • Copy of the doctoral diploma or a diploma confirming the candidate’s habilitation degree, if applicable.
  • Research statement (max 2 pages) describing the candidate’s research interests, main results, and plans for future research.
  • Declaration of the candidate, confirming that the Jagiellonian University will be their primary place of work, should they be selected in the selection procedure.
  • Statement under Article 113 of the Law on higher education and science.
  • Statement on acknowledging and accepting the rules and regulations concerning intellectual property management and commercialisation in force at the Jagiellonian University.
  • Two recommendation letters.
  • The first stage of the selection procedure is the formal assessment of the submitted documents. Applications which meet all formal requirements are the subject of substantive assessment, during which an interview with the candidate may be conducted (directly or via electronic communication channels). The candidate has the right to appeal against the negative assessment by the selection board within 7 days from receiving the information about the results of the assessment.

    Research problems related to the existence of arithmetic configurations in number sets and the limits and/or convergence of multiple ergodic means.
