OverviewBroadstep Behavioral Health Inc. is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (FNP or PMHNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to support our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team and Outpatient Program (OPT) in Jacksonville, NC. The ACT team is a community-based group of medical, behavioral health, and rehabilitation professionals who use a team approach to meet the needs of clients with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI).
The ACT team assists patients in advancing toward personal goals with a focus on community integration. As an ACT Team psychiatric care provider (NP or PA), you are integrated on the team and provide direct services to patients.
Experience Requirement: You must have 3 years of post-licensure experience treating adults (18+) with SPMI (FNP, PMHNP, or PA).

Full-time, Monday–Friday, with flexibility and regular travel to clients in the greater Jacksonville, NC area. This role serves Onslow, Craven, and Carteret Counties. The NP/PA will work 50% in the outpatient clinic in Jacksonville and 50% traveling to meet with clients in the served areas. This is a fully onsite role requiring regular travel to meet with clients in the community.
Responsibilities- Sees clients for assessment and treatment of symptoms and medication response, including side effects; frequency varies, with most contacts occurring within 4 to 6 weeks of the last appointment, often in the community
- Collaborates with the ACT team leader to monitor beneficiary treatment and provide clinical supervision to the team
- Work with nurses to develop and implement medication administration policies and oversee medical care, including regular screenings and health management
- Educates non-medical team members on psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications, side effects, and health-related conditions; provides diagnostic and medication education to beneficiaries with shared decision-making
- Participates in daily team meetings and treatment planning
- Provides psychiatric back-up after-hours and on weekends
- Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations
- Consults with physicians on cases beyond PMHNP scope
- Maintains patient contact and follow-up as needed between appointments
- Maintains timely patient documentation in the EHR
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned; open to continuing education
- Nurse Practitioner (FNP or PMHNP) with a current NC license, meeting 21 NCAC 36.0800 requirements, and at least three years full-time experience treating individuals with SPMI
- Physician Assistant (PA) with a current NC license, meeting 21 NCAC 32S.0200 requirements, and at least three years full-time experience treating individuals with SPMI
- Current/Active DEA license/certification
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with strong verbal skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Valid driver’s license and minimum state-required liability auto insurance; local travel is required
- Proficiency with electronic records management
Note:
SPMI - Severe and Persistent Mental Illness is defined as a mental disorder in adults (18+) that severely impairs daily functioning and may require long-term support, evidenced by SSI/SSDI due to mental illness.
