Overview

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval - award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

This position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) - Veterans Health Administration (VHA) - Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN
6) - Fayetteville VA Coastal Health care System (FVACHCS) - and the Primary Care Service Line (PCSL). The successful candidate will serve as a Primary Care Physician and is expected to ensure the quality and timeliness of services, customer satisfaction, and compliance with accrediting standards such as Joint Commission and the Inspector General s Combined Assessment Program. The physician will collaborate with other services as appropriate and act as a leader of a multi-disciplinary health care team to provide primary care for Veterans enrolled to the team.

Responsibilities
  • Provide primary care for a defined panel of Veterans (male and female), including comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments including health history, physical examination, patient education, and development of plans of care.
  • Function as an integral part of a Primary Care multi-disciplinary team; establish diagnoses and initiate appropriate responses to emergencies.
  • Initiate referrals and consultations to other clinical services; order and evaluate diagnostic tests; recommend treatments and/or referrals; monitor treatment efficacy.
  • Involve patients and families in planning care and establishing measurable goals for health maintenance or improvement.
  • Document health appraisal information, clinical assessments, treatment decisions, and plans of care in the electronic medical record (CPRS) on the day of the encounter.
  • Respond to computerized alerts and health line requests within policy-recommended time frames; follow Performance Measure guidelines and timeliness standards.
  • Adhere to VA/VHA formulary requirements and customer service standards.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  • United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an approved school.
  • Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Residency training in an accredited core specialty leading to eligibility for board certification (VA-approved program).
  • For faculty status, board certification may be required by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee; residency programs may be ACGME, AOA, or other approved pathways with appropriate training and patient care exposure.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

    Ability to perform all activities of the position without restriction; may involve standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and stairs as needed.

Additional Note: PRPs (Physician Resident Providers) must be fully licensed and may be appointed on a limited basis; they are not independent practitioners and may have a defined scope of practice under supervision. Residency status and qualifications must meet VA requirements.
