This position is based at the Main Branch of the Onslow County Public Library in Jacksonville.
The Technical Services Librarian is responsible for overseeing the library system’s collection development, technical services, and information technology operations. This position manages staff, budgets, workflows, and technology infrastructure to ensure efficient access to library materials and technology resources across all library locations. The Technical Services Librarian serves as the local systems administrator and provides leadership in library technology planning, implementation, and support.

Collection Development & Technical Services- Manages and coordinates the library system’s collection development services, including budgeting, selection, evaluation, and maintenance of print, audiovisual, and digital resources.
- Supervises the Collection Development Coordinator and technical services staff, including training, scheduling, assigning work, and performance evaluations.
- Oversees all technical services operations, including receiving, cataloging, classification, and processing of library materials.
- Performs original and copy cataloging using established bibliographic and authority standards and formats, including AACR2, RDA, and MARC.
- Oversees and assists with the processing, repair, withdrawal, and inventory of library materials.
- Unpacks and receipts shipments of library materials weighing approximately 20–50 pounds.
- Manages and coordinates the library system’s information technology operations, including implementation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.
- Supervises technology support staff, including training, scheduling, assigning work, and performance evaluations.
- Serves as the administrator for the library system’s public PC time and print management software and other ILS-integrated applications.
- Provides maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting for library technology, including public and staff PCs, printers, copiers, scanners, laptops, tablets, hotspots, and payment/print kiosks.
- Collaborates with County ITS and library vendors to support and implement hardware and software solutions.
- Analyzes technology needs and collaborates with the Library Director, County ITS, and library leadership on technology initiatives, planning, proposals, and grants.
- Provides technical training and support for staff and patrons.
- Serves as the local ILS system administrator, managing daily operations related to acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, patron services, reporting, and public catalog access.
- Maintains the accuracy and integrity of bibliographic, item, and patron records.
- Creates and analyzes reports using Evergreen software utilities.
