Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking to hire a highly organized and detail-oriented Licensed Registered Nurse, Corrections Nurse I. This position will be responsible for performing direct nursing care to individuals in a correctional facility. The successful candidate shall demonstrate a valid Illinois License and good oral and written communication skills, be a self-starter, and be able to carry out nursing assignments pursuant to the direction of medical personnel in a correctional setting.

Essential Functions
* Provides direct patient care and primary nursing care services.
* Reviews record keeping functions to check physician orders implemented.
* Maintains security of medical equipment and supplies.
* Monitors and maintains compliance of safety and sanitation in patient treatment and examination rooms.
* Reviews medical records and completes health status forms on individuals in custody.
* Participates in the Quality Assurance Programs through concurrent monitoring of staff compliance with established policies and procedures.
* Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
* Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree in nursing.
* Requires completion of the Corrections Nurse Trainee program or one (1) year of nursing experience (within the last five years) in an acute care setting; preferred experience includes emergency room care, medical/surgical nursing, and/or ambulatory care.
* Requires licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.
This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.
Preferred Qualifications
* Prefers at least one (1) year of nursing experience in a correctional setting.
* Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in mental health.
* Prefers at least one (1) year of experience problem solving in a nursing position.
* Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working on an interdisciplinary team.
* Prefers at least one (1) year of working experience in a leadership role.
Conditions of Employment
* Requires current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
* Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
* Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
