Purpose of Job
Provide direct support to the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of stowing, discharging, and loading of TOTE Maritime chartered vessels.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct support to all aspects of cargo operations and required elements of vessel operations and vessel port calls.Report activity to Cargo Operations Manager and otherwise assist as needed.Support the Safety Program and assist with investigations of port and stevedoring recordable and lost time incidents.Coordinate all elements related to vessel arrivals and departures. This includes berth requests, line handlers, and cargo operations at any port as required.Provide appropriate vessel arrival and departure notifications.Attend vessel primarily during Jacksonville port calls and coordinate shoreside marine services as required.Coordinate cargo and vessel activities with Ship's Crew, Stevedores, Terminal Operations Team and Port Engineers.Perform and monitor vessel stability, stress, and trim calculations, prior to, during, and at completion of operations for port calls, primarily in Jacksonville.Verify that hazardous cargo stowed on the vessel is properly segregated as per the ships hazardous requirements.Assist in managing livestock operations, heavy lift, cargo securing, bulk fructose operations, and LNG bunkering as required.Support cargo lashing inventories and inspections for TOTE Maritime chartered vessels.Develop, maintain, and modify vessel stowage documents, and vessel utilization reports for port calls under direction of Cargo Operations Manager.Provide final cargo lists and reports for each vessel port call.Maintain vessel schedules and take corrective action to limit the vessel delays in port.Assist in contributing to the Continuous Improvement Program and key initiatives regarding cargo operations.Adhere to the Integrated Management System that covers Quality, Environmental, and Safety ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certificates.Ensure actions are in accordance with Company Policies.Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
Administer, update, and code invoices and any financial reports.Assist Terminal Team with any cargo transfers at the yard.Administer and prepare the vessel clearance with US Customs.Full operational capability regarding use of Mainsail 10 and Spinnaker software.Support cargo lashing inventories and inspections for TOTE chartered vessels.Assist Company in producing quotes for not in container cargo (terminal and stevedoring).Assists the Company in any necessary duties to achieve Company goals.Participate/ lead process improvement projects relating to terminal and cargo operations.Performs other related duties as assigned, unless in conflict with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).Authority/Judgment/Disclosure/Financial Responsibility
Authority Selections: Little or no direct supervision. A wide choice in selection, development and coordination of methods within broad framework of general policies.
Judgment Decisions: Mistakes and errors in judgment are significant, difficult to detect, involving major expenditures, may involve the preparation or presentation of data on which management bases important decisions.
Disclosure of Information Selections: This position involves regular work with some information of major importance, which if disclosed may be detrimental to the company's interests.
Financial Responsibility Selections: Purchases supplies necessary for performance of personal or immediate work group's job functions.
Skills
- Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Senior Management, groups of managers, clients, customers and general public.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits.
- Ability to interpret variety of instructions furnished in written oral & schedule form.
- Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in business or related field or equivalent combination of education / experience required
- Five(5) years' experience in marine transportation industry is required, with an understanding of vessel liner service, breakbulk, containership, intermodal transportation, and/ or cargo loading.
- Container Operations experience including ship stability and cargo loading, planning, & related software program skills required.
- Cargo Max, Mainsail 10, Spinnaker, Traffic Control experience preferred.
- Hazardous certified and VSO/ FSO, CTL/ CLTD, CPE designation preferred.
- Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, or other process improvement training beneficial Sea going experience as a USCG licensed Deck Officer is…
