Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Motor Vehicle Mechanic to oversee the diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and servicing of a diverse fleet of vehicles, equipment, and specialized vehicles. The ideal candidate will bring advanced technical expertise, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to lead by example to ensure the fleet operates at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose, maintain, and repair light, medium, and heavy vehicles and equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance, including checks on batteries, tires, coolant, oil levels, hydraulic systems, and brake fluids.
- Coordinate and collaborate with administrative staff and trades to efficiently complete projects and work orders.
- Oversee the installation and removal of auxiliary vehicle equipment.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety or operational concerns.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe operating condition, ensuring availability for use.
- Provide guidance and instruction on proper vehicle and equipment operation to other team members.
- Conduct quality inspections of completed repairs to ensure standards are met.
Skills and Abilities
- Expertise in diagnosing vehicle and equipment failures using trade knowledge and diagnostic tools.
- Strong understanding of machines and tools, including their design, use, maintenance, and repair.
- Skilled in operating and adjusting a wide range of tools and equipment, such as motor vehicles, drill presses, welders, forklifts, and hydraulic presses.
- Ability to explain and clarify repair processes and procedures to team members and stakeholders.
- Proficient in basic mathematics, including percentages and decimals, for precise measurements and calculations.
- Ability to recognize colors, odors, sounds, and textures to detect equipment malfunctions or fluid issues.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.
- Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is highly preferred.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching, and using hands for repairs.
- Occasional exposure to loud noises and challenging environmental conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and chemicals.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform tasks requiring physical endurance.
- Adequate vision, hearing, and motor skills to meet safety and operational standards.
- This role does not include supervisory responsibilities but requires strong leadership skills to mentor and support team members.

Must be able to successfully pass, as required, a federal, state, or local government’s background investigation.
