Overview
Job Summary The Fire Alarm Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm and life safety systems in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements. This role ensures systems are fully operational, compliant with NFPA and local authority regulations, and functioning to protect life and property.
Responsibilities- Install, program, test, inspect, and service fire alarm systems, including control panels, notification devices, initiating devices, and monitoring equipment
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance in accordance with NFPA 72 and local AHJ requirements
- Diagnose system malfunctions and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues
- Document inspections, deficiencies, repairs, and service activities accurately and timely
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and wiring diagrams
- Coordinate with project managers, inspectors, customers, and other trades as needed
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and national fire and electrical codes
- Maintain tools, test equipment, and service vehicles in safe working condition
- Provide technical guidance and basic training to customers when required
- Adhere to company safety policies and OSHA requirements at all times
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of [X] years of experience installing and servicing fire alarm systems
- Working knowledge of NFPA 72, NFPA 70 (NEC), and local fire codes
- Ability to read technical drawings and wiring diagrams
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass background checks as required for customer sites
- NICET Fire Alarm Systems certification (Level I–IV, depending on role level)
- State or local fire alarm license (where applicable)
- Experience with major fire alarm manufacturers (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, Notifier, Simplex, Edwards)
- Low-voltage electrical experience
- Strong communication and customer service skills
