Overview
U.S. Xpress is seeking a Diesel Technician/Mechanic to perform preventative maintenance and repairs on tractors and trailers. This role supports our technologically advanced fleet and helps ensure on-time deliveries to customers.
What You’ll Do- Perform basic and routine preventative maintenance on tractors and trailers as outlined in USX PM guidelines.
- Conduct basic or minor repairs and inspections on brakes, tires, wiring, and related components.
- Check vehicle fluids (transmission oil, engine oil, windshield wiper fluid, antifreeze, etc.).
- Change vehicle tires and grease mechanical parts.
- Maintain a high productivity level and complete most jobs within or close to SRT times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical Diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of mechanical experience preferred.
- A Technical Diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program may substitute for 1 year of the required experience.
- Experience in the transportation industry preferred.
- Computer experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required; must be at least 18 years or older to work in USX Shop Environment.
- Ability to read and write.
- Must provide own tools adequate to perform job functions.
- D.O.T and Brake certification required to perform PMs and brake work.
- OEM Online certifications preferred.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; frequently stands, walks, uses hands to finger, handle or feel; and reaches with hands and arms. The following physical capabilities are required (additionally, with reasonable accommodation where applicable):
- Stand for long periods; support full body weight.
- Walk at least 1000 feet and change positions frequently.
- Reach heights over 72 inches; crouch to 18 inches frequently.
- Reach and stretch across the midline with full cervical and bilateral range of motion.
- Use hand tools constantly for extended periods.
- Stooping to 30 inches minimum and kneeling to 18 inches minimum.
- Climb stairs and ladders; pull full body weight where needed.
- Push/Pull requirements up to 250 lbs occasionally and 100/50 lbs frequently.
- Carry or lift up to 75 lbs on occasion; frequently lift up to 21 lbs and occasionally 20 lbs.
- Reasonable accommodations available to perform essential duties.
This role operates in a well-lit and well-ventilated repair shop environment. Candidates should be able to stand or walk for long periods, work with their hands, and communicate with teammates.
