Responsibilities
  • Decision making:
    Responsible for making decisions surrounding vehicle diagnostics and repair
  • Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard vehicle maintenance, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs with minimal (if any) support
  • Accesses and uses internal and external maintenance documents; diagnoses and repairs complex mechanical and electronic problems with minimal (if any) support, utilizing diagnostic computers/software when applicable
  • Performs remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine the best solution to assist roadside breakdowns
  • Performs facility maintenance duties
  • Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine the nature of the complaint once assigned a task
  • Instructs and advises other technicians regarding maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics
  • Coordinates work with non-contractual customers, demonstrates account management skills to independently facilitate preventative maintenance, repair issue resolution, and discuss new repair estimates with customers
  • Road tests vehicles to identify causes of complaints for repairs, ensures quality of repair work, and delivers customer satisfaction
  • Performs preventive maintenance (PM) and vehicle repairs as described in the maintenance scope
  • Operates and maintains documentation within the Shop Management System and adheres to safety, DOT, and corporate compliance guidelines
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Vocational or technical certification, post-secondary degree or technical certifications preferred
  • Basic tools required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work) and diagnostics and repairs (AC, electrical systems)
  • Advanced skilled repairs including major engine repairs, diesel aftertreatment or automotive fuel injection repairs
  • Four (4) years or more relevant work experience preferred
  • Non-commercial Driver License CLASS E preferred
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred
  • Other state driver’s license as required
  • Four (4) years or more experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy-duty and/or medium-duty equipment
  • Minimum tools required to perform job duties as outlined in Ryder's Maintenance policy 2.02
  • Able to take home assigned mobile service truck, secure vehicle and contents, and drive Ryder vehicles
  • Ability to understand and adhere to company policies; complete repair orders with company systems
  • Strong communication skills; ability to work independently and in a team; ability to prioritize workload
  • Demonstrated hands-on mechanic, customer service, and account management skills
  • Willingness and ability to multi-task; highly organized with excellent time management
  • Detail-oriented with good follow-up practices; entrepreneurial spirit
  • PM230 & PM298 and related maintenance readiness within specified time frames
  • Brake systems, tire/wheel, electrical, HVAC, and other OEM-specific training within required days
  • Ability to drive Ryder vehicles and pass required checks (drug test, DOT physical, road test, background and motor vehicle check including drug/alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years)
