Job OverviewThe Public Works Department is actively seeking a Master Plumber. As a City of Jacksonville employee you will receive twelve (12) paid holidays, a day of personal leave, and comprehensive benefits including health insurance, dental, vision, life insurance, and flexible spending plans. City employees are also eligible for Federal Student Loan Forgiveness after ten (10) years of public service.
Responsibilities- Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of plumbing plans and specifications for new construction, renovation, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems.
- Recommend and implement preventive maintenance procedures pertinent to plumbing work.
- Review plans, blueprints, and specifications; develop sketches, instructions, material lists, and recommend changes to plumbing projects.
- Monitor and inspect work to ensure timely completion of projects and compliance with applicable codes and safety standards.
- Perform and/or supervise the repair, maintenance and servicing of all plumbing equipment and systems including drainage and sewage disposal systems, lift stations, water supply/distribution pipes, vent pipes, building drains, plumbing and heating fixtures, and fittings, traps, backflows, hydrants, valves.
- Schedule, assign, monitor, review, direct, and evaluate the work of crews engaged in plumbing construction, repair and maintenance.
- Estimate costs of plumbing work and prepare other data needed for purchasing requirements.
- Prepare work orders and written reports on work performed.
- Utilize a computer to maintain records and work orders.
- Communicate in a clear direction, manage results and lead to organizational change.
- Assign responsibility, take corrective action, demonstrate leadership in evaluating, developing and motivating employees.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the City of Jacksonville’s competencies.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Six (6) years of education and/or experience in the plumbing trade.
- Knowledge of the standard tools, materials and methods of the plumbing trade.
- Knowledge of the techniques, methods and procedures of the plumbing trade.
- Knowledge of state and local plumbing codes to include lift stations.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the plumbing trade.
- Knowledge of supervisory methods, practices, and techniques.
- Skill in installing, maintaining, repairing, and testing plumbing pipes and fixtures.
- Skill in operating equipment and tools used in installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of plumbing pipes and fixtures.
- Ability to read, comprehend and apply written instructions, manuals, technical diagrams, blueprints, and other job-related materials.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.
- Ability to prepare cost estimates.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to climb ladders; stoop, bend and reach; and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to make mathematical calculations.
- Ability to verify conformance of plumbing work to specifications.
- Ability to schedule, assign, monitor, direct and evaluate the work of assigned personnel.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles including one-half and one-ton trucks and vans.
- Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
- Must possess a valid City of Jacksonville Master Plumber Certificate or a valid State of Florida Certification as a Plumbing Contractor and must maintain the same during employment.
- A valid driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment.
- Must qualify for, obtain, and maintain during employment the City of Jacksonville Certification as a Public Driver.
- The probationary period for this class is one (1) year.
- Depending on assignment, must pass a CJIS background screening performed by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office…
