About The Role
The Substation Apprentice will perform construction, modification, installation, maintenance, and refit of substation components, including transformers, breakers, relay panels, and bus assemblies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform installation of all substation equipment
  • Follow instructions from foreman/leadman
  • Work from aerial lifts or platforms
  • Have a mechanical background relevant to construction
  • Read and understand manuals and blueprints
  • Willingness to learn and accept responsibility
  • Be prepared and fit for duty daily
  • Work in extreme weather conditions
  • Work effectively in a team
  • Communicate effectively at all levels

Work Environment
Frequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles, mechanical parts, and vibration. Work occurs in extreme weather and noisy construction sites.

Physical Demands
Requires physical strength to lift up to 50 pounds, climb, balance, and perform strenuous labor in adverse conditions. Good manual dexterity and stamina are essential.

Position Type/Hours
Full-time with potential overtime, including emergencies and storms. Out-of-town travel is common, requiring weekly overnight stays and availability on short notice.

Key Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days

Nice-to-Haves

  • Technical degrees or higher
  • Skills in welding, heavy equipment operation, NCCCO crane certification
  • Experience in substation work
