Job DescriptionOperates a variety of heavy machinery that is appropriate to complete the requirements of the project. Heavy equipment may include trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, and other pieces of equipment. The operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Job Responsibilities- Ability to operate in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
- Performs pre-operation and post-operation inspection of the equipment to ensure its safe and proper working order
- Safely and proficiently operates equipment using proper techniques
- Continuously monitors equipment to ensure proper operations and minimal downtime
- Maintain a safe work area by setting up appropriate barricades and warning devices
- Ensures that equipment is properly cleaned, serviced and stored at the end of work day
- Advise supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
- Maintain records of work performed, as required
- Enforce the Scherer Construction/OSHA safety standards at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned by President or Superintendent
- Must be able to push, pull up, bend at the knees and waist, twist body at waist, raise and hold arms overhead, turn head-neck-shoulders as needed
- Must be able to stand, squat and kneel on hard surfaces
- Must be able to grasp and hold tools and other items with hands
- Must be able to work frequently in hot temperatures, loud noises and exhaust fumes
- Sound knowledge of various types of construction equipment, maintenance, and repair of equipment
- Capable of operating several different types of construction equipment in a safe and responsible manner
- Knowledge of DOT, federal, state, and local regulations
- Ability to analyze and resolve problems
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines
- Ability to judge distances, good sense of balance, and eye-hand-foot coordination
- Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish company goals
- High School Diploma or its equivalent
- 2 years' work experience as an equipment operator
- Valid Driver's license with clear MVR record
- MOT certification preferred
