About the Position:

The Safety/Security Coordinator supports and promotes a culture of safety across port terminal and warehouse operations. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, U.S. Coast Guard, Maritime Safety Regulations, U.S. Customs, EPA, and Florida-specific safety laws. Responsibilities include, Key responsibilities include conducting inspections, facilitating training, supporting Facility Security Plan (FSP) requirements, investigating incidents, maintaining regulatory records, and ensuring employees, contractors, and visitors comply with all safety and security procedures.

The position requires full-time commitment to operational safety and security objectives and may involve travel between terminals and attendance at industry-related training or conferences.

Expectation is that you will devote your full business time, attention, and best efforts to the performance of your duties and the company's interests. Some travel between other maritime terminals located in Jacksonville and/or conferences will be required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety & Security Program Compliance & Implementation
    • Enforce compliance with:
      • Applicable OSHA standards
      • OSHA 29 CFR 1910 (General Industry)
      • OSHA 29 CFR 1917 (Marine Terminals)
      • OSHA 29 CFR 1918 (Longshoring)
      • USCG Regulations (33 CFR Parts 105 and 126)
      • EPA, Florida DPA, and Florida DOT requirements
    • Applicable U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements related to cargo handling, CTPAT participation, and secure movements of import/export cargoes.
    • Assist the FSO with implementing and maintaining the approved Facility Security Plan (FSP), including:
      • Access Control and TWIC verification
      • Escorting procedures
      • Restricted and secure area enforcement
      • Cargo and conveyance security
      • Security training.

    • Coordinate with USCG, CBP, and other federal, state, and local agencies as needed regarding facility inspections, drills, exercises, and security events.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific safety and security procedures for:
      • Vessel loading and unloading
      • Stevedoring and cargo handling
      • Heavy equipment
      • Auto processing and assembly operations
      • Warehouse storage and material handling
      • Railcar loading and unloading
    • Support compliance related to environmental protection, stormwater management, hazardous materials, and spill prevention.
    • Maintain awareness of Florida-specific environmental hazards (e.g., heat stress, hurricanes, severe weather) and assist in updating Emergency Action Plans accordingly.
    • Coordinate and participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, drills, and exercises.
  • Training & Safety Education
    • Conduct new-hire safety/security orientations, emphasizing port and warehouse hazards.
    • Facilitate regular toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, and emergency drills.
    • Provide specialized training for PPE usage, hazard communication (Haz Com), confined space
    • Conduct new-hire safety and security orientations with emphasis on port terminal, auto logistics, and warehouse hazards.
    • Facilitate routine toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, and emergency response drills.
    • Deliver or coordinate training in:
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Hazard Communication (Haz Com)
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
    • Confined Space Entry
    • Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT)
    • Fall Protection
    • Heat Stress Prevention
    • Respiratory Protection
    • Vessel Familiarization
    • Security Awareness and Procedures.
    • Other regulatory or company-required training courses. .
    • Track training certifications in the company's EHS database, EHS Insight.
    3. Inspections & Hazard Control
    • Perform and document daily, weekly, monthly, and/or annual inspections of:
      • Marine Terminal and docks
      • Vessels
      • Warehouses and auto processing yards
      • Manufacturing and assembly areas
      • Cargo storage and staging areas
    • Identify, document and assist with correction of hazards, including:
      • Slips, trips and fall risks
      • Improper cargo securing
      • Equipment defects
      • Chemical storage violations
      • Environmental spill risks
      • Security compliance gaps
    • Inspect and assist in maintaining safety and security equipment such as:
      • Fire Extinguishers
      • Emergency eyewash and showers
      • AEDs and first aid kits
      • Spill response equipment
      • Radio and security systems
    • Participate in internal and external audits, including those from USCG, CBP, OSHA, EPA, insurance, and corporate safety.
    4. Incident Response & Investigation
    • Respond to and assist in workplace accidents, injuries, near-misses, hazardous material spills, and security incidents in compliance with OSHA and USCG reporting requirements. Document and preserve evidence from incident scenes.
    • Ensure proper notification and reporting to internal and external parties.
    • Lead/assist incident investigations using 5 whys; identify root causes and corrective/preventive actions CAPAs.
