Position Overview

This is a varied and complex position providing environmental information and expertise to laboratories requesting chemical certification required by Florida Statutes. It coordinates information with County Health Departments, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Environmental Protection Agency, and other interested groups.

Work includes grading performance evaluation reports, preparing and mailing statements to laboratories concerning compliance, initiating and following up the certification process by reviewing applications and preparing folders with proper documentation, answering written correspondence and telephone inquiries concerning the water certification rules 10D-41.050 and 10D-41.100, and reviewing quality assurance plans submitted by water testing laboratories.

Additional duties involve maintaining database files, providing informational reports which evaluate laboratory status and recommend corrective action, reviewing correspondence relevant to certification or decertification, participating in extraordinary laboratory assessments, acting as a witness and observer for ELCP, and completing mission‑essential training. Periodic travel will be required as needed. Other duties as required may also be assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing.
  • Knowledge of procedures, techniques and equipment used in lab testing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of the method of data collection.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Understanding and application of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Minimum:
    Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Preferred:
    Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences or related field with a minimum of 16 hours of Chemistry.
