Overview
Major Job Duties
The Plant Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and management of water treatment plants. They ensure water treatment processes comply with environmental regulations, monitor and control water quality, conduct routine inspections, and perform necessary maintenance for smooth operation.
- Operate, maintain, and monitor equipment and processes to ensure proper operation
- Conduct regular test checks on chemical levels, water quality, and equipment operations
- Monitor water quality throughout the facility to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Perform routine testing of water to ensure compliance with regulations
- Compile and enter plant operation and water quality data into the SAMS system for required reports
- Record and report accurate operational data and performance metrics
- Perform routine, corrective, and preventive maintenance on treatment equipment and systems, including minor electrical and mechanical repairs, SCADA system, and variable frequency drives
- Operate and maintain chemical feed pumps for accurate dosing
- Oversee grounds and building maintenance
- Respond to emergency situations and system failures
- Travel to assigned plants in the local area
- Work various shifts as the plant operates 24/7
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures
- Perform all other duties as assigned

- High School diploma or GED
- Valid Water Operator Certification
- Valid Driver License
- Familiarity with industry software and willingness to learn
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
- Must be able to work in confined spaces
- Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
- Exposure to potential hazards such as chemicals, fumes, and odors
