Responsibilities- Enforce applicable Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Codes and Departmental Policies and Procedures related to sanitation, safety and control of communicable diseases and hazards to humans in programs including Food Hygiene, Group Care, Mobile Home Parks, Biomedical Waste, Body Art, Tanning and other Environmental Health Programs.
- Play a role in the Divisional Outreach Initiative, educating the public on environmental health and safety issues.
- Conduct sanitation inspections of Foster Homes, Group Homes and Adoption Placement Homes for compliance with the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Department of Children and Families interagency agreement.
- Inspect biomedical waste generators in Duval County at least once annually for permitted facilities and at least once every 3 years for exempt facilities, documenting violations as applicable.
- Inspect other group care and food hygiene facilities for compliance with relevant statutes and administrative codes; inspect body piercing facilities and tattoo establishments during permit year; inspect tanning facilities as required.
- Perform duties during disaster drills or actual disasters and serve as a back-up on-call for biomedical waste spills/complaints.
- Complete required reports (Daily Activity Report, leave/attendance, mileage, itinerary) and perform data entry using Microsoft programs and DOH databases.
- Travel to field locations to fulfill inspections and mandatory training requirements; perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, and policies related to safety and sanitation inspections of regulated facilities.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to utilize problem solving techniques and computer skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Access, Excel and the Environmental Health Database System.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in environmental health, environmental science, or a physical, natural or biological science.
- Valid driver’s license
- Able to work outside in the elements which may include extreme heat or cold
