Working TitleENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST II –
Your Specific ResponsibilitiesResponsible for regulating, coordinating, permitting and inspecting regulated industries within the Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal System (OSTDS) Program:
Industrial/Manufacturing Zoned Facilities (IMZs), Septage Stabilization facilities, Portable Toilet distributors, Septic Tank Manufacturers, and Aerobic Treatment Units (ATUs)/Performance Based Treatment Systems (PBTSs). Conduct comprehensive OSTDS inspections, prepare permits for construction and modification, issue denial letters, and perform field inspections of system construction. Coordinate septic tank contractor meetings, public education, and community outreach. Perform site evaluations and soil log analysis to determine soil characteristics, water table elevations, and topographical conditions.
Maintain permit lists, conduct annual inspections of licensed facilities, and generate required reports (Daily Activity Report, mileage, itinerary, etc.). Conduct inspections during disaster drills and actual disasters. Manage all assigned IMZ/commercial facilities in Duval County and ensure compliance with Chapter 62‑6 FAC and DOHM 150‑4 Section IV, Chapter K.

- Understand applicable Florida Statutes and Administrative Codes.
- Good math skills;

Minimum
- Valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
- Bachelor’s degree in a physical, natural, biological, or environmental science from an accredited college or university.
