Water/Wastewater Engineer of the Future / Staff Engineer

Overview

JEA is recruiting for engineers with a Professional Engineering License to support the planning, modeling, design, and construction of water, wastewater, and reclaimed water infrastructure. This role is ideal for civil, environmental, or stormwater engineers with transferable experience in utilities, drainage, site development, or municipal engineering. The successful candidate may perform hydraulic modeling, system analysis, project management, and develop designs for pipelines, pump stations, and major capital improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform hydraulic and hydrologic modeling for water distribution, sewer collection, force mains, and pump stations.
  • Develop and/or review designs, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and engineering reports.
  • Manage capital projects from design to construction, including budgeting, scheduling, permitting, procurement, and consultant management.
  • Provide operational and technical support, evaluate system performance, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare RFPs for engineering and construction services; review proposals and recommend awards.
  • Conduct and/or ensure field inspections, testing, and construction observations occur to ensure compliance with plans and standards.
  • Analyze system data, maintain modeling and GIS databases, and prepare technical and financial reports.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, regulatory agencies, consultants, and contractors.

Mentor junior engineers and support continuous improvement efforts.

Individual continues to acquire knowledge and skills in a specific functional area by performing engineering assignments using standard analysis, procedures and techniques. Responsibilities may include performing moderate investigation and analysis, design tasks, preparing project documents and plans, editing specifications, conducting research and investigations and solving straight forward problems. Continues to receive moderate instruction to complete specific objectives and direction when encountering unconventional or complex problems and developing potential solutions.

Completed work receives oversight to insure the application of sound professional judgment. Is expected to coordinate work with all internal and external stakeholders as required. Assists the manager with schedules, budgets and communications regarding specific assignments and projects.
