Project Engineer — Water & Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)

Jacksonville, FL | Full-Time | Salaried

Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc. is a privately owned, employee‑owned (ESOP) civil contracting firm performing work across public and private markets throughout the Southeast. Our expertise includes site development, underground utilities, roadway construction, and water/wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) projects.

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Project Engineer to support our Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant division, based out of our Jacksonville office. This role supports complex civil infrastructure projects that directly impact the communities we serve.

What You’ll Do Project Planning & Execution
  • Support planning, preparation, and execution of water and wastewater treatment plant projects.
  • Assist with production tracking, cost forecasting, and budget management.
  • Apply strong knowledge of construction principles, logistics, and project controls.
  • Support change management, subcontract coordination, and procurement activities.
Collaboration & Field Support
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to meet schedule and production goals.
  • Assist with submittals, RFIs, documentation, and compliance tracking.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to milestone planning.
  • Provide technical support to ensure safe and efficient field operations.
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
  • Analyze field production data and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Support quality control and safety compliance initiatives.
  • Take ownership of personal development while contributing to overall team performance.
Technology & Documentation
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel, MS Project, and/or Primavera P6 for scheduling and reporting.
  • Work with heavy civil construction software such as HCSS, Procore, or equivalent systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, cost tracking, and forecasting reports.
What We’re Looking For Experience & Education
  • 1–3 years of experience in civil engineering or construction management, preferably with water/wastewater treatment plant projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams, Project).
  • Familiarity with scheduling software (Primavera P6 or MS Project preferred).
  • Experience with heavy civil construction software preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments.
  • Ability to climb ladders or scaffolding and navigate active construction sites safely.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs when necessary.

Location & Travel
