Senior Environmental Engineer – Jacksonville, FL

WSP is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Engineer for our Jacksonville, FL – Bay meadows Road office to support our Earth & Environment Team on projects ranging from due diligence to remediation and permitting.

Job Description

The Engineer will provide technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, and environmental permitting projects. Responsibilities include delineation and monitoring of soil and groundwater contamination, performing waste disposal calculations, protecting air, water, and land resources, and generating accurate reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, collect, and compile environmental data from soil, groundwater, air, and other media.
  • Conduct investigations, inspections, and studies to assess environmental impacts and plan remediation.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, including data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record retention.
  • Perform Phase I and Phase II site assessments.
  • Prepare data visualizations and technical reports for complex findings.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations to explain research, methodologies, findings, and recommendations.
  • Oversee cross‑functional teams, monitor project budgets, labor hours, expenses, and subcontractor costs.
  • Provide oversight for desk‑based research, fieldwork, and laboratory work, reviewing data interpretation and computer modeling.
  • Identify environmental risks and develop action plans for mitigation and permitting.
  • Implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and technical staff professionally.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals to deliver client solutions.
  • Stay current with environmental science advancements.
  • Engage in business development and proposal writing, including scoping and costing medium‑ to large‑sized projects.
  • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5–7 years of post‑education experience in environmental engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience with reducing hazardous substances and mitigation programs.
  • Proficiency in sampling, measurement, and environmental control techniques.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal permitting agencies and regulations.
  • Experience in preparing technical reports and permitting applications, including field surveys.
  • Project‑management experience tracking hours, expenses, and schedules.
  • Ability to work independently and lead junior team members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Excellent communication skills for engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Strong self‑leadership, attention to detail, and results orientation.
  • Capability to learn new techniques, multitask, and comply with company policies.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, and data analysis tools.
  • Well‑developed critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Committed to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Flexible working hours and occasional travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within the first year.
  • 40‑hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER).
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.
