Job OverviewA Piping Design Engineer is responsible for directing and managing process piping design projects for heavy industrial engineering projects. Mechanical 3D design and stress analysis for piping, tanks and pressure vessels. Oversee all design responsibilities and ensure projects are profitable and completed on time. Our engineers incorporate state‑of‑the‑art tools and design software to ensure our designs meet your specific needs. Our company specializes in providing services for process industries.
We design installations, piping, tanks, pressure vessels, and specify all manner of process equipment.

Job ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities – Mechanical/Piping Design, 60%
- Design responsibility for all mechanical/piping work
- Perform field work
- Verifying existing plant conditions
- Designing mechanical and/or piping systems
- Layout new equipment for most efficient use of space and resources
- Perform stress analysis and back train others
- Design guidance and review for design work by others
- Perform calculations as required
- Work with applicable codes to ensure design compliance
- Stamp drawings in AL, GA, MS, and FL
Responsibility – Project Design Supervision, 20%
- Develop plan of work and oversee drawings as required.
- Develop design concepts for Installation of equipment and structures.
- Coordinate with other disciplines as required to produce projects with the lowest total installed cost possible.
- Verify detailed design is in compliance with design intent and standards.
- Check employees’ participation in using design procedures. Promote, encourage, scold, as required to achieve compliance.
- Check design time vs. project budgets and work for meeting or improving on that metric.
- Obtain feedback from project engineers and customers and utilize that information to improve or reward performance.
Responsibility – Project Management, 15%
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients
- Lead scope development efforts by interfacing with clients as needed.
- Communicate scope needs to designers or other engineers
- Obtain quotes for engineering, equipment, material, and services
- Develop bid packages, lead bid meetings and evaluate bids
- Control documents generated during the course of the project. Issue documents to client for permanent storage.
- Close out projects in EGS file system.
Responsibility – Design Process Leadership, 5%
- Participate in and review work process for mechanical design work.
- Establish or modify existing design and checking standards.
- Train employees in procedures.
- Establish and maintain metrics or processes to ensure compliance with the procedures.
- Promote the establishment of “standard details” or other drawing devices to speed design of routine items.
- Implement 3D design technology and develop the base approach for new design.
- Prioritize and distribute design work to designers, utilizing their best skills and seizing opportunities for them to learn new skills or improve their efficiency.
- BSME in Mechanical Engineering with 10 years plus experience with heavy industrial projects.
- P.E. Preferred but not required
- AutoCAD Plant 3D experience or another 3D design software
- Stress Analysis experience (Using Triflex, open to Caesar II or Autodesk FEA)
