WSP is currently seeking a Sr. Environmental Engineer for our Jacksonville, FL – Bay meadows Road office. You will be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and help the organization meet client objectives and solve challenges.

The Engineer will provide technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, and environmental permitting projects. Tasks may include assisting with the delineation and monitoring of known areas of soil and/or groundwater contamination, performing calculations for contaminated waste disposal, pollution control, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting contamination and degradation of air, water, and land resources.

You will generate accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding field conditions and assess and advise on short- and long-term risks to ecological and human health. You will ensure responsibilities are delivered and adhere to high-quality industry standards.

Your Impact
  • Identify, collect, and compile environmental data from samples of soil, soil gas, groundwater, air, and other environmental media for projects, investigations, and surveys.
  • Perform environmental engineering work and assist with conducting investigations, inspections, and environmental studies to gain further information on a particular environmental problem or issue; verify site characteristics; uncover primary, secondary, and tertiary environmental impacts; and/or plan for future environmental remediation or other needs.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance pertaining to data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
  • Conduct environmental site assessments (Phase I and II).
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, models, cross-sections, and other illustrations for interpretation or presentation of complex data, findings, or analyses.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, methodologies, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, clean-up or restore mid- to larger-scale environmental problems.
  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams in executing project work, permitting strategies, environmental impact assessments, and regulatory compliance, including tracking project budgets, labor hours and expenses, and subcontractor costs.
  • Provide high-level oversight for desk-based research, fieldwork, and/or laboratory work, including review of measurements, data interpretation, and computer modeling.
  • Provide environmental risk identification and impact assessment, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level threat mitigation and permitting activities to minimize impacts to the environment and humans.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and technical staff in a confident and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future-ready solutions for clients.
  • Remain current in latest environmental science subject matter and techniques.
  • Actively engage in business development and proposal writing including the scoping and costing of medium- to large-sized projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering or closely related engineering discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in environmental engineering.
  • Knowledge of environmental engineering principles, practices, and methods and their application to environmental and project work-related issues.
  • Knowledge of the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products, and mitigation programs.
