Overview
The READ USA Ameri Corps Team Leader Program is dedicated to improving literacy rates among elementary students in Title 1 schools within Duval County. By providing book choice and ownership, one-to-one literacy tutoring, multicultural literacy programming, professional literacy development, and workforce development preparation, the program aims to enhance reading proficiency and reduce poverty. Ameri Corps Team Leaders play a crucial role in delivering high-quality reading lessons, mentoring peer tutors, and supporting students' literacy development.
They receive comprehensive training in trust-based relational intervention methods and professional development, equipping them with the skills necessary to make a significant impact. The program focuses on building sustainable organizational infrastructure to expand READ USA’s services to new communities. Through their service, Team Leaders will help ensure over 50,000 elementary children, over 1,500 teens, and hundreds of teachers have access to essential literacy resources, ultimately contributing to the overall goal of solving illiteracy and improving community well-being.
- Members will go through 7 days of initial training and will then be placed at an elementary school in Duval County.
- Members will tutor students who are behind in reading during school hours and will mentor and coach teen tutors during after-school tutoring.
- Duties include tutoring students, completing paperwork in a neat, organized, and timely manner, mentoring and coaching new teen tutors, and working well in a team environment.
- Corps Members will receive workforce and leadership development training at regular intervals.
