Position: Physician (Primary Care)

Overview

North Florida/ South Georgia VA Healthcare System is seeking an experienced and dynamic Primary Care Physician for the Jacksonville Outpatient Clinic on North Jefferson Street in Jacksonville, Florida. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize technology (i.e., Telehealth video conferencing) and the use of telephone visits when necessary.
  • Perform the full range of duties to include physical exams, ordering laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic tests.
  • Practice in accordance with professional standards of care, core values, and with a commitment to excellence.
  • Utilize electronic medical records in accordance with NF/SG VHS policy and other regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, educational activities, administrative and other duties as assigned.
  • Work Schedule:

    Monday–Friday, full-time; 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. (or 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.); schedules determined by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

  • United States Citizenship:
    Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education:

    Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • License and Registration:
    Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training:
    Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine leading to eligibility for board certification. VA-qualified residencies include those approved by the ACGME or AOA, or other residencies deemed equivalent by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee. Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA-accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs).
  • PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (not training licenses) and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis; PRPs are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged. They may have a limited scope of practice under supervision. Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
  • English Language Proficiency:
    Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d).
  • Preferred Experience:

  • Physical Requirements:

    Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019, administered by VA Occupational Health. This position may require light to moderate lifting (up to 44 lbs), light carrying (up to 15 lbs and under), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, operating with both hands, and walking/standing for extended periods. Additional requirements include near and far vision, depth perception, color distinguishing ability, hearing (aid permitted), emotional and mental stability, ability to work closely with others and independently.
