Registered Dental Hygienist

Position Overview

Big Smiles Florida, a school-based mobile dental home, is seeking a Registered Dental Hygienist in Jacksonville Beach, FL and surrounding areas to provide dental care to underserved children at their schools on a PRN/as needed basis. Our innovative in‑school program offers a unique workday that ends with the school day, with no nights or weekends, making it ideal for working parents or anyone who wants to make a difference in the dental field.

• Must hold an active RDH license.
• Experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and a willingness to travel to schools across counties.
• Works well with both children and adults.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Assist with oral health management of all patients—being a team player at all times.
• Verify patient identity using name and date of birth prior to treatment; record initials on the medical chart.
• Obtain oral health assessment for each patient (new baseline; follow‑up).
• Review medical history and other pertinent oral health information.
• Provide oral hygiene services: dental prophylaxis scaling, sealant application, and fluoride application consistent with accepted best practices and standards.
• Offer dental assistance as directed by the dentist.
• Deliver oral health education and individual counseling to each patient.
• Document provided dental services on the patient’s chart.
• Travel daily to and from school sites.
• Bilingual preferred.

• Evenings, weekends, and summers off.
• School day schedule (about 6–7 hours; typically 8:00 A.M.–3:00 P.M.).
