Position: Pipelayer (Water, Sewer, Storm Utilities)

Overview

Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc. is a privately owned civil contracting firm serving the Southeast. We specialize in site development, underground utilities, roadway construction, and water/wastewater treatment plant projects. We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Pipelayer to join our Jacksonville team. In this role, you’ll take ownership of pipe installation operations, working closely with your crew to ensure accuracy, quality, and efficiency on every project.

What You’ll Do
  • Serve as the lead in the trench, coordinating daily activities and communicating goals with the crew and foreman.
  • Install large-diameter utility pipe accurately and efficiently, maintaining proper grade, depth, and alignment.
  • Set up and operate lasers for grade control, verifying elevations and alignment.
  • Maintain organization and crew flow to ensure the project stays productive and on schedule.
  • Support and mentor team members, modeling Petticoat-Schmitt’s commitment to safety, precision, and teamwork.
What We’re Looking For
  • Minimum 6 months of pipe laying experience.
  • Hands-on experience installing large-diameter pipe on commercial or public infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of trench safety, compaction, and installation best practices.
  • Ability to read grades and use a grade stick or laser to maintain proper elevations.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Willing and able to climb in and out of trenches and work 20–30 feet below grade.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must have reliable transportation within the Jacksonville metro area.
  • Available to work overtime and occasional Saturdays as needed.

Work Schedule
  • Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Occasional Saturdays as needed (Sundays off)
  • Typical workweek: ~40 hours; overtime available based on project needs

  • Based in Jacksonville, FL
  • Projects are typically within a 70-mile radius of Jacksonville
