Position Summary:

The Junior Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of our organization by performing accurate bookkeeping, maintaining financial records, and managing invoice and payment processes. This role also provides administrative support to ensure the smooth functioning of the finance department.

Essential Responsibilities:

Bookkeeping and Financial Recordkeeping
  • Maintain accurate and current financial records in compliance with internal policies and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Record daily financial transactions, including journal entries, using accounting software.
  • Assist with monthly reconciliations and support financial reporting.
Invoice and Payment Processing
  • Process vendor invoices and ensure appropriate coding and documentation.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
  • Generate and send invoices to funders, vendors, or third parties.
  • Monitor and follow up on outstanding receivables.
Administrative Support
  • Organize and file financial documents, both digital and physical.
  • Maintain accessible and audit-ready financial records.
Other Duties
  • Respond to accounting-related inquiries via phone and email.
  • Support internal and external audits by compiling requested documentation.
  • Assist with special finance projects and departmental needs as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 2-3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (nonprofit experience preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., MIP Abila, Quick Books, Sage Intacct) is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
