We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant with at least 2 years of experience in the construction industry to support daily accounting operations. This role requires hands-on experience with construction accounting practices, including job costing, progress billing, and cost tracking. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger entries and reconciliations
- Maintain and reconcile job cost reports for active construction projects
- Track project costs, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead
- Support progress billing (AIA billing), including schedules of values and lien waivers
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable, including subcontractor payments
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts
- Prepare and review monthly financial reports
- Assist with month-end and year-end close
- Support payroll accounting, including certified payroll where applicable
- Help ensure compliance with contract requirements, retainage, and reporting deadlines
- Assist with sales tax, use tax, and other regulatory filings
- Work with project managers to resolve cost discrepancies and billing issues
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience in the construction industry
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and progress billing
- Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 100 Contractor, Viewpoint, Procore, Quick Books Construction, or similar)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, reconciliations, basic analysis)
- Solid understanding of GAAP principles
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- $28 to 33 based on expeiernce
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience with AIA billing, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Familiarity with union payroll and certified payroll reporting
- Experience working with subcontractor compliance and lien releases
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Professional and reliable with a high level of integrity
