Accounting Manager, Financial Reporting
Position Summary
The candidate will assist the Controller in overseeing the accounting function and be responsible for the day-to-day execution of the accounting operations. This role runs the monthly close, reviews complex accounting activity, manages staff, and serves as a key liaison with both internal and external parties. The Assistant Controller plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting.
ResponsibilitiesAccounting Operations & Close
- Manage and execute the monthly and annual close process
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Ensure accurate general ledger activity and timely issue resolution
- Maintain close calendars, checklists, and documentation standards
- Prepare and review internal and external financial reports
- Support preparation of financial statements and disclosures
- Assist with consolidations, intercompany activity, and eliminations
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
Technical Accounting & Judgment
- Review and resolve complex accounting matters
- Apply and interpret accounting policies consistently
- Research accounting guidance and document conclusions
- Escalate high-risk or judgmental issues to the Controller
Audit & Tax Support
- Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for auditors
- Coordinate audit requests and prepare supporting documentation
- Assist with tax return preparation and data review
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team
- Review work product and provide feedback and training
- Assist with workload planning and resource allocation
- Promote continuous improvement and accountability
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting efficiency and accuracy
- Assist with system implementations, upgrades, and integrations
- Strengthen controls and documentation as the organization changes
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Experience managing or reviewing month-end close activities
- Prior experience supervising staff
Preferred
- Real estate, fund, or multi-entity accounting experience
- Experience supporting audits and tax engagements
- Experience in a lean or growing organization
- Experience with Quick Books, Quick Base, and AWS Data Reporting

- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Clear communicator with both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders
- Able to exercise sound judgment and escalate appropriately
This role serves as a development path toward the Controller position, contingent on demonstrating mastery of company accounting processes, full-cycle accounting ownership, audit leadership, and strategic decision-making. The expected progression timeline is one to two years.
