Overview
The Crisis Prevention Technician (CPT) works within the psychiatric departments to help maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients. This role responds to emergency situations, assists with patient care under nursing supervision, and implements de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to protect patients and staff. CPTs conduct safety checks, supervise visitation and therapeutic activities, and ensure accurate documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
Strong communication skills, the ability to manage aggressive behavior, and a commitment to treating patients with dignity and respect are essential.
- Respond to emergency situations and assist with patient care under nursing supervision.
- Implement de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to protect patients and staff.
- Conduct safety checks and supervise visitation and therapeutic activities.
- Ensure accurate documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Educational:
High School or GED required; college hours a plus. One year equivalent work experience in a psychiatric/addictive disease treatment facility desirable. Minimum of one year relevant experience preferred. - Specialized skills/Training:
Ability to plan and implement therapeutic activities in a multidisciplinary setting; computer skills; strong communication skills; ability to build rapport with patients; attitude and commitment to treating patients with dignity and respect; knowledge of needs of geriatric and adult populations; documented attendance in management of aggressive behavior training. - Safety Sensitive: YES
- Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations and to work and concentrate amidst distractions.
- Ability to move between tasks, remain flexible, and maintain therapeutic boundaries during treatment and discharge.
- Physical capability to perform necessary movements (stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift) and to perceive object attributes by touch.
- Ability to express and exchange ideas verbally, to perceive and interpret detailed information through oral communication, and to perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; vision requirements for administrative, clerical, and patient observation tasks.
Days & Nights: 6 am to 6 pm; 6 pm to 6 am
