The Senior Field Service Technician (SrFST) is responsible for the installation, commissioning, scheduled, and emergency service of products serviced by Fairbanks Morse Defense, commensurate with appropriate certification. Products may include, but are not limited to, diesel engines, electrical controls, cranes, elevators, roll-up doors, and davits.

The SrFST leads field service activities, ensures customer satisfaction, and serves as a critical point of contact for both customers and internal teams. This position requires up to 75% travel (domestic and international) and may include weekends, evenings, and emergency assignments.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Role

• Lead and oversee field service activities for FMD products, ensuring top-quality service and customer satisfaction.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex systems with minimal supervision.
• Supervise and mentor regional field service associates.
• Manage complete engine overhauls and other service-related projects.
• Provide on-site and phone troubleshooting support to customers.
• Collaborate with internal teams and Product Engineering to resolve issues and implement improvements.
• Perform occasional shop duties such as part inspections, assembly, and testing.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as an FMD Field Service Technician.
• One of the following:
  • Associate degree in a technical discipline and four years of military experience, or
  • Four years of military or equivalent industry experience.

Technical Skills

• Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines, electrical controls, and related systems.
• Strong understanding of pneumatic, PLC, and electronic engine controls.
• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and blueprints.
• Experience leading technical activities and supporting field service associates.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and remote technical support tools.

Other Skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to travel up to 75% domestically and internationally.
• Must hold U.S. Citizenship (No
  
  FORN Policy).
• Valid driver's license required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and perform standing or walking tasks regularly.
• Specific vision requirements include color and peripheral vision.
