Position Description

The social studies teacher will be responsible for instructing students about national, state, local, and global history. The teacher will perform critical analysis of historical events and figures and provide context for modern times.

Essential Job Functions
  • Plans, develops, and utilizes a variety of instructional materials appropriate to support the learning of students from varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Has a strong background in literacy development and reading and writing in the content area of social studies.
  • Is dedicated to student academic achievement and social emotional growth for all students.
  • Is dedicated to implementing teaching practices that focus on student engagement and student growth.
  • Individualizes and adapts educational processes and procedures to enhance the student learning.
  • Provides whole group, small group, and individual instruction to students, and effectively utilizes the time available for instructional activities.
  • Maintains appropriate standards of student behavior, using behavioral management strategies and techniques, including positive reinforcement.
  • Embeds social emotional learning opportunities for students.
  • Present complex concepts in instructional and investigational settings.
  • Proficient in instructional technology and has experience with a Learning Management System (LMS) and teaching in a one-to-one computer teaching and learning environment.

Education, Licensure, Certification, or Formal Training
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in History Education.
  • Wyoming teacher certification with a 6‑12 History Endorsement or Social Studies (Applicants must have or be able to obtain a teaching certificate issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board ).
Salary Determination
  • Wyoming experience.
  • Out‑of‑state experience up to 7 years.
  • Degree – Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate.
  • Semester Graduate Credits beyond Degree.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit on the floor depending on the age of the children.

The employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. 0‑12 feet and on occasion up to 20 feet, such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person, may need to lift arms to write on a chalk or marking board and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch and reach 0‑24 inches and up to 36 inches above the head.

The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and exposure to screen(s) via technology. Hearing ability to monitor activity and presence of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required.

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is normally low to moderate but may become loud when large groups are together in a room.
