ABOUT:
Environmental Scientist needed in Jackson, TN to support environmental, geological, biological, and regulatory work for state environmental programs. This role includes conducting scientific assessments, interpreting data, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and collaborating with field teams, laboratories, and TDEC departments. Candidates should be detail-oriented, scientifically strong, and comfortable working both independently and within a structured regulatory environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in one of the following:
- Environmental Science
- Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Meteorology)
- Ecology, Sustainability, Applied Sustainability
- Life Sciences (Biology, Microbiology, Health Physics, Biophysics)
- Environmental Health, Pre-Medicine, Engineering
- Other acceptable natural science or resource-related fields
Applicants must:
- Possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment
- Must successfully complete required state training courses
- Must meet one of the following:
- Completed coursework qualifying for the Tennessee Geologist Licensing Exam
- Hold an active Tennessee Geologist License
- Hold a reciprocal state Geologist License
- Must have 24 semester hours (36 quarter hours) in one of the following biological areas:
- Biology or Biological Sciences
- Botanical Sciences
- Environmental or Conservation Sciences
- Zoological Sciences
- Aquatic, Terrestrial, or Wetland Biology/Ecology
- Or another approved biological science discipline
