Product & Process Engineer
Salary: $86,250-$115,000
Position OverviewThe Product & Process Engineer is responsible for developing, validating, and launching products and manufacturing processes from early concept through start of production. This role ensures new products meet performance, cost, and quality targets, supports process optimization across multiple sites, and acts as a key technical liaison for both internal teams and external customers.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert for product and process engineering.
- Collaborate with R&D, acoustics/technical teams, and corporate engineering to define Bills of Materials (BOMs) and recommend manufacturing processes for RFQs.
- Lead trials and development activities to establish or refine BOMs, process parameters, tooling needs, and equipment requirements throughout all launch phases.
- Ensure smooth and cost‑effective production launches that meet functional performance targets and customer validation requirements.
- Enter and maintain product and process data (BOMs, tooling, equipment specs, parameters) in the PLM system in support of operations engineering and program gate reviews.
- Support early‑phase process definition, including layout concepts, PFMEA inputs, equipment recommendations, and capital planning.
- Manage and update IMDS submissions and compliance data.
- Work with R&D, Purchasing, and Quality to define and negotiate material specifications with suppliers.
- Assist plant teams with troubleshooting, process optimization, and cost‑reduction projects.
- Lead cost‑reduction initiatives related to product and process engineering, including customer VA/VE opportunities.
- Monitor emerging technologies and competitive products to support innovation and continuous improvement.
- Provide training to enhance product and process understanding across the organization.
- Contribute to joint development efforts with material suppliers, equipment vendors, and customers.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and 5-10 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to interpret scientific/technical literature, regulatory documents, reports, and specifications.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to respond to customer inquiries and present to senior leadership.
- Skilled in applying advanced mathematical and analytical concepts to complex engineering problems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering/design tools such as AutoCAD or similar software.
- Working knowledge of:
- Chemistry, math, and physics fundamentals
- Lab testing and analytical equipment
- Manufacturing processes and production equipment
- Standard laboratory practices
- Up to 50% travel required to support development and plant activities.
- No direct supervisory duties, but may provide guidance and training to less experienced engineers.
- Primarily office-based, using computers and standard office equipment.
- Requires extended periods of computer use and frequent communication via phone, email, and video conferencing.
