Job Summary
The Department of Engineering at Union University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Mechanical Engineering, beginning fall 2026.
Teaching load is 24 credit hours (typically 4-4). We are seeking specific expertise and interest in at least one of the following areas: dynamics, vibrations, controls, robotics, and automation. The successful candidate will teach upper- and lower-division courses across the breadth of our general engineering curriculum. Course offerings may be developed and refined in line with the candidate's preparation and scholarly interests.
Union faculty members produce scholarship and participate in advising and departmental/university service. Rank assignment commensurate with education/experience. This position includes competitive salary and benefits package. Position subject to final budgetary approval.
The Engineering Department is part of Union's College of Arts and Sciences and is housed in the Ethos Forum, a new facility containing a large maker space and designed to cultivate collaboration across departments and within the local community. Engineering includes four full-time faculty members and serves approximately 65 majors and minors in general engineering, with concentrations in electrical or mechanical engineering.
The department is active in community outreach and student projects, including the Baja SAE student competition and assistive technology projects through the Make:able initiative. Job Duties
* Teach a full-time course load (24 hours) including upper- and lower-division courses.
* Assign grades, maintain records in accordance with FERPA regulations, and keep regular on-campus office hours.
* Pursue steady growth as a teacher and as a course designer.
* Participate in a formal schedule of course improvement and data collection/assessment tasks to satisfy ABET accreditation requirements.
* Advise students in their academic and career paths, including via regular meetings to plan for
registration and assess academic progress.
* Maintain a program of scholarship in line with the department's definition of scholarship,
including the public dissemination of scholarly/design work.
* Participate in standing and ad-hoc university committees in line with expectations for full-time faculty.
* Attend and participate in departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings and events, including commencements and convocations.
* Participate enthusiastically in the life of the department via shared curriculum development, program planning, assessment, and other activities. Cultivate meaningful community with faculty colleagues, staff, and students.
