Requires a High School diploma and 2-4 years of relevant experience.

This position is with the CAPITOL POLICE in JACKSON, MS, HINDS COUNTY. This is advanced-level security work for patrolling and protecting public property and equipment against loss or damage from theft, fire, vandalism, or other causes, and maintaining order in a state facility. Employees at this level function as a lead worker and/or shift supervisor, use knowledge to make decisions, and mentor lower-level employees.

Some duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Directing the flow of foot traffic in state-run buildings.
• Protect and guard state property or persons from hazards.
• Regulating the activities of patients, patrons, or the general public, and may include performing limited police duties.
• Training lower-level security officers and directing the arrangement of shifts to provide optimum security.
• Providing informational, instructional, and directions to all guests and vendors that visit those buildings with rules, regulations, and laws concerning conduct at the facility.
• Performing limited police duties and supervising the regulation of activities of patients, patrons, or the general public.
• Performing related work as required to ensure the effective operation of security services within the state institution or facility.
