This time-limited position is a Mississippi Archaeology Survey (MAS) Site File Registrar in the Historic Preservation Division. The Registrar will assign archaeological site trinomials, manage the site file search room, and update the Historic Sites Management Tool (HSMT) to support MDAH's mission. Responsibilities also include writing and editing cultural resource survey reports, reviewing Phase I archaeological reports, scopes of work, research designs, and cultural resource assessments for regulatory compliance, maintaining archaeology report logs, coordinating with MAS personnel on data entry and GIS needs, and providing technical assistance.
The Registrar acts as the technical Principal Investigator for Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) investigations, overseeing data collection, post-processing, and interpretation, and supervising field investigations. Additional duties include public outreach, planning educational programs, and processing archaeological collections (cataloging, cleaning, documenting, rehousing) per 36 CFR 79. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Strong analytical thinking skills, demonstrated experience in technical writing, and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred QualificationsThe position typically requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited four‑year college or university and at least four years of related experience. A master’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, history, or a related field; completion of an archaeological field school; and at least one year of prior experience in North American archaeology are preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with archaeological experience in Mississippi.
