Job Description - Coordinates and delivers patient care using the health care team philosophy practice model. Coordinates patient teaching and discharge planning. Coordinates activities with ancillary departments. Maintains standards of the department and the hospital. Reports to Nurse Manager or designee.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.
  • Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards.
  • Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service through attitude and actions, aligned with the organization’s Vision, Mission, and Values.
  • Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, local requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients on the unit.
  • Initiates and implements patient care plans; makes nursing assignments appropriate to staff skill levels; maintains acceptable standards of patient care.
  • Identifies problems and guides personnel to solutions; creates a working climate that fosters growth and job satisfaction.
  • Executes physicians’ orders accurately and promptly; administers medications and IV solutions skillfully and correctly.
  • Maintains accurate and complete recording and reporting; ensures supplies and equipment are on hand.
  • Participates in planning changes, improvements, orientation and in-service training, and unit/department performance improvement plans.
  • Assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures; maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Displays initiative, supports hospital policy, and maintains good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors.
  • Functional Demands:
    Prolonged standing, walking, or sitting; lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds; transferring/repositioning patients; reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching for patient care functions.
  • Visual and auditory acuity, manual dexterity, and ability to perform in a fast-paced environment; ability to pass required health screenings.
  • Exposure to clinical hazards is possible; personal protective equipment is available and must be worn as required.
Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Previous general duty nursing experience preferred but not required. Current Registered Nurse license to practice in the state;
Current BLS certification.
