Job Summary:
To help reduce the stress and anxiety of children in a hospital setting and provide a variety of emotional, psycho-social, recreational, and health related educational needs.## Education & Experience Bachelor's degree and completion of Child Life Internship.
Certification by the Child Life Council preferred.
** Certifications, Licenses or Registration
Required:
** N/A## Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of child cognitive, social, and skills development methods and techniques. Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and family members. Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children. Ability to alleviate stress and anxiety in children. Ability to work in a stressful environment.
** Responsibilities
* ** Supervises therapeutic and diversional play.
* Assesses and prioritizes patients’ needs through chart and cardex review, collaboration with staff and co-workers, and personal contact with patients and family members.
* Prepares children for and assists children during medical tests and procedures through education, rehearsal, and coping skill development.
* Supports families during hospital stays or challenging events.
* Participates in patient/family teaching about hospital and/or procedures.
* Participates in professional development by attending workshops, reading professional journals and networking with co-workers.
* Performs other duties as assigned..
** Physical and Environmental Demands
** Requires occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, occasional sitting, occasional standing, occasional twisting, and constant walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)## Time Type:
