To assess, develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care and treatment for patients in an assigned clinical area. Coordinate operations of the clinical area including patient scheduling, maintaining records, and managing admissions. Counsel patients and families on treatment and conditions, act as liaison between case managers, home health nurses, utilization review, and other stakeholders. Provide patient care, ensure safety, coordinate referrals, maintain records, serve as preceptor, and participate in nursing councils and committees.

Valid RN license required.

• Knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools and programs.

• Provide patient care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating treatments and interventions.
• Educate patients and family members on patient condition, diet, medication schedules and side effects.
• Ensure patient safety.
• Coordinate referrals to other services within and outside the unit.
• Maintain accurate patient records.
• Function as a preceptor in accordance with UMMC guidelines.
• Report patient issues or concerns to supervisor as appropriate.
• Serve on at least one nursing council, hospital, or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care.
• Demonstrate core standards of exceptional customer service.

Requires occasional exposure to high noise levels, heat and cold, biohazardous conditions, occasional handling of dangerous equipment and tasks that may involve bending, lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds, climbing, crouching, standing, walking, and driving. Work may extend significantly beyond regular hours based on clinical needs.
