IT Specialist I/II at Entergy

Work Place Flexibility: Hybrid – position can be based out of The Woodlands, TX;
Little Rock, AR;
New Orleans, LA; or Jackson, MS. Relocation assistance and sponsorship are not provided. The official job title will be IT Specialist I or II depending on experience and qualifications.

Position

Purpose:

This role supports corporate Transmission and Distribution applications. The primary responsibility is application development, maintenance and support of Entergy’s Power Delivery Applications, which include third‑party and in‑house developed software. Custom applications support many business functions for the Power Delivery organization, spanning day‑to‑day operations. Third‑party applications include GIS solutions such as GE’s Small world, ESRI, EPOCH and others.

Primary Duties & Areas Of Responsibility
  • Provide operations support, ensuring production systems and devices are online and available; this includes non‑business hours on‑call support.
  • Maintain Power Delivery systems application availability, ensuring applications meet defined service‑level agreements.
  • Troubleshoot and debug custom and vendor applications.
  • Support the design, development and testing of real‑time systems applications and enhancements.
  • Interface with software vendors for discussion, consultation, problem solving and best upgrade practices on 3rd‑party application systems.
  • Participate in a 24‑hour on‑call rotation.
  • Understand power delivery operations business needs and objectives; recommend and design applications and implement enhancements that meet customer business needs.

Minimum Education al Background
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or related technical degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum Experience Required
  • IT Specialist I: 0–2 years of work experience in IT application support.
  • IT Specialist II: 2+ years of work experience in IT application support.
  • Title is dependent on experience and skill set.
Desired Experience
  • Experience in the software design lifecycle, emphasizing development, support, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate technical issues to non‑technical senior managers.
Critical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in languages such as C#, VB, , MSSQL, Oracle, JavaScript, VBScript, ASP.NET, and Python.
  • Knowledge of C++, API, and REST services is desired but not required.
  • Analytical thinking and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Ability to support real‑time systems in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience with cyber‑security activities such as system hardening, patch management, and configuration management.
  • Ability to support multiple Windows environments across a large network and troubleshoot Web‑services and Windows services.
  • Knowledge of security controls testing, security audits, and security assessments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Windows and/or Unix operating systems and resolve issues.
  • Ability to perform critical analysis of issues with other team members and recommend an optimal solution.

  • Initiative to implement process improvements where needed to streamline workflow without being requested by business.
  • Effective teamwork and inclusion, building collaborative relationships.
