Job Title:
Mental Health Technician Job Summary
To provide child, adolescent, or adult patient supervision in a treatment or educational setting. To assist in the maintenance of a safe, secure environment that enhances treatment and/or educational effectiveness. To perform job duties in accordance with the medical center's purpose.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
- Knowledge of patient care charts and histories.
- Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills to interact with mental health professionals, patients, and family members.
- Ability to provide therapeutic patient care to mentally, emotionally, and/or developmentally disabled individuals.
- Monitors patients' physical, physiological, and behavioral status and progress toward established treatment goals.
- Reports patient observations to supervisor, following prescribed procedures and standards.
- Provides care to patients in a manner that promotes safety, comfort, and a therapeutic environment.
- Participates in the development and implementation of treatment programs.
- Participates in group sessions, training activities, and staff meetings; enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living; attends to patient behavioral difficulties and provides assistance in crisis intervention as needed.
- Serves on at least one hospital or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or work area.
- Demonstrates core standards of exceptional customer service.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent exposure to bio-hazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality.

Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology or related field or a minimum of sixty (60) hours completed toward degree plus one (1) year of patient care related experience such as Nurse Aide or Psych Tech.
