Simulation Coordinator – Instruction School of Nursing – Oxford

Job Summary: Provides daily support to the Simulation Centre, offers academic assistance, maintains simulation laboratories, human simulators, and equipment, and manages supplies for the simulation center. Collaborates with faculty and staff to enhance simulation-based teaching activities.
Education & Experience: Associate’s degree and two (2) years of clinical experience. Working knowledge of medical and AV technology preferred. Acute Care Experience Preferred. Teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities:
- Maintain a professional, safe, and confidential learning environment. Orient new students and faculty to the simulation center; assist faculty with the basic assumptions and concepts of simulation. Provide technical and simulation operations support for faculty and staff during simulation sessions to optimize the learning experience.
- Perform pre‑simulation activities: set up laboratories, run diagnostics on equipment using checklists, prepare scenario props, assist in creating scenario documentation, and set up control rooms by initiating simulation software and audiovisual hardware and systems.
- Contribute to high‑fidelity simulation: orient students, staff, and faculty to the environment and equipment; operate interactive life‑sized manikins programmatically to provide realistic patient responses; quickly manipulate simulator software during scenarios; provide audio as the “voice of the patient”; provide theatrical support during scenarios; assist faculty in observation; operate audio and video equipment to record sessions; troubleshoot during simulation.
- Contribute to instruction of psychomotor skills in phlebotomy, peripheral IV placement, and other procedures using low‑fidelity simulators.
- Perform post‑simulation activities: operate audio and video equipment for debriefing; administer student evaluations of the simulation center experience; provide technical evaluation and recommendation for improvement; clean laboratories using checklists; perform equipment checks and replenish supplies.
- Perform regular operational checks and cleanings of equipment; oversee scheduled maintenance per manufacturer recommendations; ensure data security and safety; troubleshoot equipment failures following manuals or manufacturer instructions; consult technical support and determine need for vendor repair; maintain understanding of vendor contracts and warranties.
- Assess simulation center supply needs; maintain inventory processes, prompt reordering, organize storage; track usage; minimize costs; research material alternatives.
- Perform academic support duties: maintain training attendance records, confidentiality agreements, and opinion surveys; transcribe handwritten comments; assist with exam setup and administration; enter exam questions into electronic learning software; key and grade multiple‑choice questions; copy handouts and exams; proctor written exams in the simulation environment.
- Maintain simulation documentation: enforce policies and procedures; manage secure storage of digital media.
- Participate in community outreach and marketing; conduct tours of the simulation center; document simulation center history.

Physical and Environmental Demands: Requires occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, working beyond regular hours, significant seasonal/clinical volume changes, precise quality measures, occasional lifting of more than 100 pounds, occasional climbing, crawling, crouching/stooping, kneeling, pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, frequent sitting, standing, twisting, and walking.
