Job Summary

The Construction Field Supervisor will report to the Utility Construction Manager and will be engaged in the project during the construction phase of Construction Projects for substations and transmission lines through final commissioning and closeout. Project scopes vary and so will the roles of a Construction Field Supervisor for each project.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Participate as a member of project teams to assist others in the development of project scope, project cost estimate, and project schedule
  • Participate on site field scope visits
  • Assist in developing schedules including critical paths
  • Assist in developing detailed construction plans and identify outage requirements to implement new facilities
  • Assist in developing construction contract bid packages; review responses and participate in vendor selection; attend pre-bid meetings with contractors
  • Participate in design constructability reviews
  • Develop detailed construction plans with outages, exact work dates, and resource requirements
  • Ensure contractors are in compliance with Utility Company mandated safety training
  • Coordinate with survey and soil boring crews as needed
  • Ensure all necessary permits from ROW and Environmental groups are in place prior to construction
  • Participate in Contractors Pre-Construction/Safety Kickoff meetings
  • Ensure contractor inventories all material delivered to site and address deficiencies with design engineers
  • Safety:
    Tailboard conferences, JSA development/review, hazard analysis, and monitoring contractor safety training and capabilities
  • Monitor and report theft or illegal activity
  • Ensure project quality and maintainability by the Utility Grid Operations at project end
  • Coordinate environmental considerations with Environmental Group and Contractors (e.g., oil removal, storm water management, SPCC, SWPPP)
  • Perform QA/QC during all phases of the project
  • Log construction progress and maintain field notes; ensure as-built documentation and compliance with standards
  • Manage material returns and investment recovery per processes
  • Lead morning kickoff with the construction crew; maintain safety for all involved
  • Identify and address safety hazards and contribute to mitigation efforts
  • Work with engineers on scopes, estimates, schedules, and constructability meetings
  • Coordinate material deliveries and landowner access
  • Ensure permit compliance during work
  • Performs QA/QC activities on all project phases
  • Document and ensure all field data and photos are completed for installed/removed equipment
Qualifications (Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities

)
  • Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of experience in Electric Utility Transmission or Distribution
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and ability to guide crews and management on proper application
Working Conditions
  • Work at project construction sites within the Utility Company service area; may require travel to other service areas, including electric substations and transmission/distribution lines
  • Interact with team members, supervisors, and client personnel
  • Must wear safety equipment per safety department requirements
  • May work at more than one site per day and tolerate climate changes
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds
  • Clear speech and hearing with or without accommodation for effective communication
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods
  • Vision and observation capabilities for analysis and investigations
  • Manual dexterity for routine office duties
  • Mobility and travel ability for off-site locations as needed
