About the Agency
This opportunity is a Accountant position within MS Department of Child Protection Services. The Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) is committed to protecting and nurturing Mississippi's at-risk children and families. MDCPS offers a variety of positions statewide, including social work positions providing case management services and working with potential foster families, supervisor positions providing clinical and administrative support, and agency support positions such as policy development, human resources, information technology, program management, training, and budgeting/finance.

This accounting professional will be responsible for accurate financial reporting for the agency. This is a second-level accounting professional responsible for assisting in preparing the annual General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) packet. Will be responsible for preparing monthly reconciliations on all federal grants, preparing monthly bank statement reconciliations, and entering all journal entries. And other job duties as needed.
What you'll need to be Successful
Successful candidates will need to have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or business-related fields. Must have experience in GAAP reporting and preparing journal entries and reconciliations. Must be able to work under pressure and prioritize work to meet deadlines, must submit work accurately and timely. Must have the ability to be an effective team player and work independently, have great written and verbal communication skills as well as analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and MAGIC experience, preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and 2 to 4 years of experience and/or appropriate certification.
