PLUMBER

Install, maintain and repair plumbing, mechanical and heating systems and equipment at the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center. This position also supervises and trains prisoner work crews to help perform these functions and ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulations and codes.

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Five years of experience in the plumbing trade, including one year equivalent to a Plumber E9. Completion of a vocational training program in plumbing that includes commercial or industrial level instruction may substitute for two years of experience assisting skilled trades people.

Some positions may require possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State in accordance with Public Act 346 of 1988. Some positions may also require a journey plumber’s license issued by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth.

Some positions within this class series may be assigned job duties that require a CDL or a journey plumber’s license.

New hires and returning MDOC employees after more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) with either 40 or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on level of offender contact and classification. Additional online training will also be required. Overnight travel may be required for NCNET.
